Website Grader Likes Me. Na Na Na Na Na.
By Karri • Jul 11th, 2008 • Category: seoMy colleague and new NOT just online friend, Tina Forsyth of Online Business Manager (she lives right here in my home town!), recently blogged about Website Grader , a delightfully elegant little SEO auditing tool for websites. I know that half these kinds of online tools are about as useful as my husband on a Sunday morning. But this one does provide a very neat and tidy summary of how your website–and blog–stacks up from an SEO perspective. Maybe I’m a little biased though. I got an 81/100. Kewl huh?
I got docked for some stuff like wordy title tags, but I don’t get too nutty about things like word count. Just put a nice keyword phrase or two at the beginning, make sure it reads well, add your company name and/or location and move on.
What I can’t understand though is why my meta descriptions are not being added to my pages despite the fact that I have diligently added them to many of my pages using the Custom Fields option in my WordPress dashboard. What’s up with that?
Anyway, I’m glad I did this little exercise, even if it is kind of dorky for an Internet Marketer like me to do so. Now I know that WordPress is not properly creating descriptions for my pages or posts. And now I’ve got some investigative work to do.
I like Website Grader because, like Tina said, it’s simple to use and would probably make sense even for non-net-marketing types.
Go check it out . Then get all sneaky and see how your competition rates. If that’s not living on the edge then, hey, I don’t know what is.
